The centre of the spa and winter sports resort is made up of the square and village (1250 m above sea level), which have grown together as a result of building activity in the 20th century. 

Klosters takes its name from the Premonstratensian monastery “Klösterli im Walt”, first mentioned in a document in 1222 and dedicated to St. Jacob, a subsidiary foundation of Churwalden. After the monastery was dissolved in 1528 and parts of the buildings were destroyed by fire in the Prättigau War of 1621, only the Romanesque tower of the Reformed parish church, which was renovated in 1921, remains and forms the centre of the Klosters-Platz fraction. Diagonally opposite this church is the Old Town Hall (Jeuchenhaus) from 1680, a beautiful wooden house in the Prättigau style with a brick plinth and a coat-of-arms decorated portal. A reconstructed farmhouse from the 16th century houses the small local history museum Nutli Hüschi.
